Your First Appointment

Getting Started

What to Expect

  • The first step is to get in touch with me either by email or phone. Please note, I do not accept insurance within my private practice.
  • We will then arrange a brief phone call where you can tell me a bit about your current concerns, ask questions, and determine if you feel comfortable working with me.
  • After the phone call, if you are interested in working with me and I feel that I can help you, I will send you a link for a telehealth appointment where we can talk more in-depth about your life, your stressors, and how you are managing.
  • If you feel like we are a good fit for the work you need to do, we will schedule regular appointments.

Finding the right fit in therapy is critically important. When individuals do not feel like they can explore their most complicated thoughts or feelings, therapy can feel like another place of failure. If it ever feels like I am not a good fit for your needs, I will provide you will referrals to other therapists.

In your initial intake appointment, we will work together to identify the problem that you want to work on. Your first appointment will likely include an in-depth discussion of your personal history. You also may be asked the following questions:

What does being healthy look like for you? What are you doing when you are feeling your best? Who are you with? When you are engaged in this activity, how long can you do it before you need to stop? Are there medical conditions that can be measured that are improving when you are healthier? (Improved blood pressure or improvement in sleep are two common examples.)

There is no need to come to your session having answered these questions. I include them here because some clients like to know what their first session will be like beforehand. Remember, we will work together, creatively, to find your unique path to an improved life.

Investment

Therapy can provide you with tools and coping mechanisms that you can use for the rest of your life. Working towards your mental health goals is an investment in a healthier, happier future. I do not bill insurance within my private practice.
